When we program a machine or process, we strive to make the system as smart as possible.  We include diagnostics, usually through a Human Machine Interface (HMI), to verify all motions or actions of the process are functioning properly.  With this, we have a full status and alarm messaging system to notify the operator or line mechanic the state of the machine.  If any alarms occur the operator or mechanic will know exactly what's going on.  This helps with production, insuring more up-time for the system, and more throughput of the product.
